The village was spared and the first Passion Play was performed in 1634. Oberammergau has kept this oath ever since.</div> <bR> <div> The Passion Play depicts the story of Christ beginning with the entry into Jerusalem and ending with the resurrection and transfiguration. The performance takes all day (morning & afternoon) with a long break for lunch. The music for the play was written in 1815 by the Oberammergau school teacher Rochus Dedler. Employing a large choir and orchestra his compositions still provide the musical setting for the entire play. The cast for the Passion Play is drawn entirely from all walks of life within the village. They spent at least two years rehearsing and preparing for this event.</div> <bR> <div> <B>The next Oberammergau Passion Play will take place in 2010.</B></div> <bR> <div> Verstraete Travel will be offering a number of escorted tours to the Oberammergau Passion Play. These tours will offer a variety of itineraries so that the tour participants can choose to enjoy other parts of Europe as well. Verstraete Travel will partner with Oad Reizen who provides the lands arrangements for these tours.
